Transfer domain names from 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net to Planetsmb
Overview
This page takes you step by step through the procedure for transferring a domain away from 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net and into an account at Planetsmb.
The transfer process involves the tasks that are described below. Following the transfer tasks, we provide information about tracking the progress of the transfer, and ICANN rules regarding rejections.
Transfer Task 1: Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer
To make sure your domain name can be transferred, check the following:
The domain name has been registered for at least 60 days, and has been at 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net for at least 60 days.
The domain name is not in "client update prohibited" status.
Transfer Task 2: Confirm contact information
Before you can transfer a domain, the Registrant and Administrative contact information must be up-to-date at 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net, because it is these contacts who receive the transfer request and okay the transfer.
To update these contacts at 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net:
- Log on to your account at https://admin.1and1.com.
- In the "Basic Settings" section, click "Domains".
- In the "Contact" menu, click "Edit Registrant Contact" or "Edit Administrative Contact".
- In the "Data source" menu, click the "Use my user data as the Reg-C" item if your account contact information is up-to-date and should be applied to this contact. Click the "Let me use an alternative Reg-C" item if the Registrant or Administrative contact information should be different than the account owner information.
- Select the "I am aware . . ." check box and the "Admin-C and Tech-C" option.
- Click "Next".
- Click "Submit".
Transfer Task 3: Obtain the authorization code
Some TLDs require that you provide an authorization code for your domain name, to provide an extra level of assurance that the transfer request comes from an authorized source.
To transfer a .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .name, or .cc domain name, obtain the authorization code from 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net
- Log on to your account at https://admin.1and1.com.
- In the "Basic Settings" section, click "Domains".
- Select the check box next to the name you want to transfer, and click "Info".
- The authorization code displays in the interface. Copy and store it; you'll need to supply it when you submit your transfer request at Planetsmb.
- Transfers of other TLDs do not require authorization codes.
Transfer Task 4: Unlock the domain
Before you can transfer a domain away from 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net, the domain must be unlocked. Locking is a feature most registrars offer to prevent unauthorized transfers (hijacking) of domains.
To unlock:
- Log on to your account at https://admin.1and1.com.
- In the "Basic Settings" section, click "Domains".
- Select the check box next to the name you want to transfer.
- In the "Transfers" menu, click "Lock/Unlock".
- Select "Unlock" and click "OK".
Transfer Task 5: Transfer the domain name to Planetsmb
Once you have prepared the domain name at 1&1, Schlund + Partner, or GMX.net, you're ready to transfer to Planetsmb.
To transfer your domain name to Planet Small Business select the domain transfers page. On this page, enter the domain name for which you would like to transfer and click Search. If the domain name is valid and available for transfer fields will be displayed allowing you provide information regarding your transfer request. Planet Small Business' registrar provides transfer capabilities for several domain TLD Extensions including .BIZ, .COM, .INFO, .MOBI, .NAME, .NET, and .ORG. If you would like to transfer multiple domains, select the link for bulk transfers from the domains menu. This option will allow you to specify a list of domains you wish to transfer complete with their Authorization Keys. Upon submission you will be prompted to add additional options including hosting for each of the provided domains.
